2024 Prescription Drug Event File Layouts: Update to Field 41, VACCINE ADMINISTRATION FEE OR ADDITIONAL DISPENSING FEE, Definition/Values Text
Effective January 4th, 2024, CMS has revised the verbiage found within the DEFINITION/VALUES column for Field 41, VACCINE ADMINISTRATION FEE OR ADDITIONAL DISPENSING FEE, on the 2024 Prescription Drug Event (PDE) File Layouts. This change has no impact on the values a plan should submit for FIELD NO., FIELD NAME, POSITION, PICTURE or LENGTH for the PDE Inbound File Layout Effective 01/01/2024 or PDE Outbound File Layout Effective 01/01/2024.
Previous DEFINITION/VALUES:
“Amount the plan paid the pharmacy for administering a vaccination. Must be numeric starting 2008, SPACES or zero for 2006 and 2007. This field can also include amounts of additional dispensing fees paid for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) oral antiviral drugs procured by the U.S. Government, over and above what was reported in the “Dispensing Fee Paid” field.”
Revised DEFINITION/VALUES:
“Amount the plan paid the pharmacy for administering a vaccination. Must be numeric starting 2008, SPACES or zero for 2006 and 2007. This field can also include amounts of additional dispensing fees paid for oral antiviral drugs procured by the U.S. Government, over and above what was reported in the “Dispensing Fee Paid” field.”
The removal of Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) verbiage from field 41, VACCINE ADMINISTRATION FEE OR ADDITIONAL DISPENSING FEE, was done to reflect the distribution of government-procured antivirals that now also could include NDA-labeled antivirals.
