Instead of billing separately for follow‑up visits, wound checks, or typical postoperative services, providers receive one comprehensive payment that covers both the surgery and the related care for a defined period. Depending on the procedure, Medicare assigns a 10‑day, or 90‑day global period, which helps standardize reimbursement and streamline billing across surgical services.
