New Requirements Added for Changing and Resetting Passwords in Direct Data Entry (DDE)

Published 05/21/2018

Providers should be aware that four new requirements have been added for changing and resetting passwords in Direct Data Entry (DDE). The four new requirements are:

1. The user's name cannot be contained in the password. (Only 3 consecutive characters of the user's name are allowed.)

2. The RACF user ID cannot be contained in the password. (Only 3 consecutive characters of the user ID are allowed.)

3. No contiguous repeating characters are allowed. This is not case sensitive. (e.g. 'Ppeg42c#' would not be allowed, however, 'Pgep42c#' would be allowed).

4. The following character strings are not allowed: [APPL APR AUG ASDF BASIC CADAM DEC DEMO FEB FOCUS GAME IBM JAN JUL JUN LOG MAR MAY NET NEW NOV OCT PASS ROS SEP SIGN SYS TEST TSO VALID VTAM XXX 1234]

For complete instructions on changing and resetting DDE passwords, please refer to the Direct Data Entry (DDE) User's Guide, Section 1, Pages 9 and 10 (PDF, 460 KB).
