New Service Added to the Hospital Outpatient Department Prior Authorization Program

Effective for dates of service rendered on or after July 1, 2023, facet joint interventions are being added to the Hospital Outpatient Department (OPD) services requiring prior authorization as a condition of payment. On June 15, 2023, Palmetto GBA will begin accepting prior authorization requests for facet joint services.

Prior authorization is a condition of payment and does not change Medicare benefits or coverage requirements. Please visit the Outpatient Department Prior Authorization section of our website for details about the prior authorization process, along with some of our self-service tools that are available.  Information specific to Facet Joints will be added as it becomes available.
