Behavioral Health Initiatives and Opioid Use Disorder Screening and Treatment Reminders

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Behavioral Health Strategy covers multiple elements including access to prevention and treatment services. Medicare pays for medically necessary and reasonable services which are beneficial to the mental well-being of Medicare beneficiaries. Those services include Psychotherapy for Crisis, Behavioral Health Integration including the Collaborative Care Model, and Opioid Use Disorder screening and treatment.

To support the behavioral health initiatives and raise awareness of Medicare coverage for these services, the local Medicare Administrative Contractors mailed Part B providers a letter (PDF) containing information about these services in October 2023. Links to coverage and billing details for these services are listed below.
