Palmetto GBA Teams with LFS Carolinas to Help Homeless Female Veterans

Columbia, S.C. -- Palmetto GBA and its employees have joined with Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas (LFS Carolinas) to support Angels House, a new transitional housing facility in Columbia for homeless female military veterans.

Palmetto GBA employees are providing a welcome basket that includes personal care items, bed sheets, an alarm clock, a hair dryer and a personal planner to each resident upon her arrival at Angels House. Employees also have donated towels, bedding and other household items to the facility, and Palmetto GBA has donated surplus storage units, shelving, a computer, a computer desk and other items.

More than 33,000 female veterans live in South Carolina, and it is estimated that nearly 300 of them are homeless. Many struggling with post traumatic stress disorder or other combat-related illnesses.

“Palmetto GBA and its employees are proud to support Lutheran Family Services in providing assistance for these veterans who have served our nation,” Palmetto GBA President and COO Bruce Hughes said.

Angels House is a partnership of the Veterans Administration of South Carolina and LFS Carolinas designed to help homeless female veterans become self-sufficient by providing for their mental, educational, social and spiritual needs.

The two main components of the program are the provision of affordable transitional housing and the utilization of broad, community-based support services. Residents are provided a mentor, a business coach and a connection to a faith community, who will help residents find and maintain employment, learn valuable life skills, and identify opportunities for socialization and faith development.
